How to Peel a Hard Boiled Egg

Peeling hard boiled eggs can be frustrating and time consuming. Here are a few simple tips to make easier:

  1. Step 1

Crackle the egg all over by tapping it on your counter.

  2. Step 2

Roll the egg gently between your hands to loosen the shell.

  3. Step 3

Peel the egg starting at the large end. If you hold the egg under cold running water or dip it in a bowl of water this will help remove the shell.

When hard boiling eggs always use eggs that have been in the fridge a few days as they are easier to peel than fresh eggs. Keep hard boiled eggs refrigerated in their shell and use within one week.

Of course, everyone has a different technique. How do you peel hard boiled eggs? Here are some of your suggestions:

“I find if you don't let them cool they peel much better.” -Chandra O. via Facebook.

“Add a bit of baking soda to the water prior to boiling will also help with peeling.” -Mary P. via Facebook.

Emily A. shared with Eggs via Twitter a video that suggests cracking the hard boiled egg on both ends and then blowing the egg out of the shell.

“And don’t forget to add salt to the cooking water!” - Toutes Mes Poules D'ornement via Facebook.
